Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to CashState ("Company," "we," or "us"). These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy, govern your access to and use of the CashState iOS application, the cashstate.app website, and all related services (collectively, the "Services").

By using the Services — whether by creating an account, browsing our website, or tapping "I agree" — you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Services.

You must be at least 13 years old to use CashState. If you're under 18, you need a parent or legal guardian's consent. By using the Services, you represent that you meet these requirements.

What CashState Does

CashState is a free personal finance app that helps you:

• Track your net worth across all your accounts
• Create and manage budgets
• Categorize transactions
• Set and track savings and debt payoff goals
• View spending insights and trends

To do this, we connect to your financial institutions through SimpleFin, a third-party service that provides read-only access to your account data. We cannot initiate transfers, make payments, or take any action on your financial accounts.

Your Account

When you create an account, you're responsible for:

• Providing accurate information (your real name and email)
• Keeping your login credentials secure
• Everything that happens under your account

If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, let us know immediately at contact@cashstate.app.

We authenticate through Clerk, our third-party authentication provider. By creating an account, you also agree to Clerk's terms of service.

The Price: Free

CashState is free to use. All features are available to all users. There are no subscriptions, no premium tiers, no in-app purchases, and no ads.

We reserve the right to introduce paid features in the future, but any features that are free today will remain free. We'll never bait-and-switch you.

Financial Data and Third-Party Connections

By connecting your financial accounts through SimpleFin, you authorize CashState to retrieve your account information (balances, transactions, and account details) on your behalf through SimpleFin's read-only API.

A few important things to understand:

• Read-only means read-only. We cannot move money, make payments, or modify anything in your bank accounts.
• We're not your bank. We display information from your financial institutions, but we don't guarantee its accuracy or timeliness. Because we depend on SimpleFin to retrieve data from your banks, balances and transactions may be delayed by a day or two. Always check with your bank directly for the most up-to-date information.
• SimpleFin is a separate service. Your use of SimpleFin is subject to their own terms and privacy policy. We chose them because they share our philosophy of read-only, privacy-first access.
• Your credentials are encrypted. SimpleFin access tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage. We never store your bank username or password.

What You Can Do

You may use CashState for its intended purpose: managing your personal finances. This includes connecting accounts, creating budgets, categorizing transactions, setting goals, and viewing your financial data.

What You Can't Do

Please don't:

• Use CashState for anything illegal or fraudulent
• Attempt to access other users' data or accounts
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app or its backend
• Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Services
• Attempt to overload, disrupt, or interfere with our servers or infrastructure
• Upload malicious code, viruses, or anything that could harm the Services
• Use the Services to harm or exploit minors in any way
• Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit any part of the Services

If we determine that you're misusing the Services, we may suspend or terminate your account. We'd rather not — but we will if we have to.

Intellectual Property

The CashState app, website, design, logos, and all related content are owned by CashState. You're welcome to use the Services for personal, non-commercial use — that's what they're for. But you can't copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from our stuff without permission.

"CashState" and the CashState logo are our trademarks. Please don't use them in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation without our written consent.

Your Data

Your financial data, budgets, categories, goals, and everything else you create in CashState belongs to you. We don't claim any ownership over your data. Our Privacy Policy explains in detail what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

You can delete your account at any time through the app's Settings. When you do, all your data is permanently removed from our systems.

Feedback and Suggestions

We love hearing from you. If you submit feedback, feature requests, or suggestions through our feedback form or support channels, you grant us the right to use those ideas without restriction or compensation. We won't share your personal information attached to feedback, but the ideas themselves may influence how we build the product.

Limitation of Liability

Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold harmless CashState, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Services.

Termination

You can stop using CashState at any time. Just delete your account in the app and you're done — we'll wipe your data.

We may also terminate or suspend your access to the Services if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Services entirely. If we ever shut down CashState (we don't plan to), we'll give you reasonable notice so you can export or delete your data.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last Modified" date at the top. For significant changes, we'll do our best to notify you through the app or via email.

Your continued use of the Services after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any legal action related to these Terms shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.

Severability

If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in full effect. A court may modify the unenforceable provision to the minimum extent necessary.

Entire Agreement

These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and CashState regarding your use of the Services.
